FDA grants 510(k) clearance for Medtronic's Aquamantys SBS 5.0 Sheathed Bipolar Sealer

Medtronic, Inc. announced today that it has received 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Aquamantys® SBS 5.0 Sheathed Bipolar Sealer, a new addition to the spine portfolio of the company's Advanced Energy business.

Crux receives CE mark approval for inferior vena cava filter with BDR

At last week's ABC-WIN Seminar, Prof. Dr. Michael Knauth, Director of Neuroradiology, University Hospital of Goettingen, Goettingen, Germany, and President-elect of the German Society of Neuroradiology, presented the European evaluation data on Separator 3D, a next-generation clot engagement device that works in conjunction with aspiration at the site of the lesion causing an acute ischemic stroke to remove the clot and restore blood flow to affected brain tissue.

UHCMC now offers HITEC for women with gynecologic cancers

Patients with gynecologic cancer have new hope in a novel technology now offered at the Seidman Cancer Center at University Hospitals (UH) Case Medical Center. A team of cancer specialists, led by Robert DeBernardo, MD, is among the first in the nation to launch a dedicated program using Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) to treat ovarian, endometrial and select other cancers.

According to a latest study from Queensland, it is doctors, not mothers, who are responsible for the rising rate of babies born by caesarean section in Australia. Queensland has the highest rate of C-sections in Australia and researchers say often women are not properly informed when they make the decision to go ahead with surgery.

The Detroit Medical Center today broke ground for a new $78 million, five-story heart hospital scheduled to open on the health system's midtown Detroit campus in two years. The new DMC Heart Hospital is the first hospital to open in Detroit in 30 years. ... The new building is a major turning point for a program that "hit rock bottom" eight years ago, Duggan said, when cardiologists and heart surgeons left for jobs in the suburbs and open-heart surgery operations declined here.
