Manuscript based on study of Clarient InsightDx Mammostrat to be published in Breast Cancer Research

Vaccine manufacturers may be able to produce lower-cost HPV vaccines, say researchers

Vaccine manufacturers in India and other developing countries may be able to produce a lower-cost HPV vaccine in spite of the complicated array of patent protections on the technology, say researchers at the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy. At a cost of at least $300 for the three-dose regimen, the blockbuster HPV vaccines, including Gardasil- from Merck and Cervarix- from GlaxoSmithKline, are some of the most expensive ever introduced.

Phase III study results of imiquimod creams for treatment of EGW presented at HPV Conference

Results from a Phase III program evaluating imiquimod 3.75% and 2.5% creams for the treatment of EGW, applied once daily for up to 8 weeks, demonstrated that both were well-tolerated and more efficacious than placebo, according to data presented at the annual Human Papillomavirus Conference in Montreal, July 3 - 8. Investigators found that efficacy was greatest for imiquimod 3.75% with an enhanced safety profile.

HPV DNA testing for precancers and cervical cancers is over 50 per cent more sensitive than cytology testing for the same conditions a community-based study in Mexico has revealed. Results of the largest HPV DNA primary screening study ever to be performed in a Latin American country point to the readiness of HPV DNA testing for large-scale implementation in Mexico and are published online today (8 July 2010) in Cancer, Causes and Controls.

Screening for HPV genotypes 16 and 18 helps detect cervical pre-cancer missed by Pap test

Roche today announced that data from the ATHENA (Addressing THE Need for Advanced HPV Diagnostics) U.S. registration trial of over 47,000 women demonstrate that two human papillomavirus genotypes, HPV 16 and HPV 18, can identify those women with cervical pre-cancer missed by cytologic examination with a Papanicolau (Pap) test.
