Celgene announces results of REVLIMID, docetaxel/prednisone phase II combination study on mCRPC

Celgene International Sàrl today announced results from a phase II investigator initiated study of REVLIMID (lenalidomide) in combination with Avastin (bevacizumab), docetaxel and prednisone in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer were presented at the 2011 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting in Chicago, Ill.

Promising results from Exelixis' cabozantinib phase 2 trial against metastatic ovarian cancer

Exelixis, Inc. reported longer follow-up data from a fully enrolled cohort of patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer, primary peritoneal carcinoma, or fallopian tube carcinoma treated with cabozantinib (XL184) in an ongoing phase 2 adaptive randomized discontinuation trial. Cabozantinib shows promising activity in these patients independent of prior response to platinum-based therapies.

Sanofi's semuloparin Phase III study data against venous thromboembolism presented at ASCO 2011

Sanofi US announced today results of the pivotal SAVE-ONCO study which demonstrated that, in cancer patients initiating a chemotherapy regimen, investigational semuloparin significantly reduced the risk of the composite of symptomatic-deep vein thromboembolism (DVT), non-fatal pulmonary embolism (PE) or venous thromboembolism (VTE)-related death by 64%, meeting the study primary endpoint.

Study links loss of PTEN gene with patient's response to melanoma therapy

Genetic analysis of the tumors from patients with advanced melanoma can clue researchers in to how well patients will respond to a therapy that targets the growth-promoting protein called BRAF, a researcher from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania will report on Monday, June 6 at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Results from HSPPC-96 Phase 2 study against recurrent gliobastoma presented at ASCO 2011

In data presented at The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, cancer researchers found that the brain tumor vaccine HSPPC-96 for treating recurrent gliobastoma (GBM) has a favorable safety profile and extends survival by two to three times more than the current median survival rate.

Survival rates of wealthier patients with glioblastoma are longer than poorer patients

Survival rates of wealthier patients and those younger than 70 with glioblastoma, the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor, have improved since 2000, whereas rates for those living in poorer areas and older than 70 have remained stagnant, according to an abstract being presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting in Chicago by Thomas Jefferson University Hospital researchers on Saturday, June 4.
