Vitamin D supplements might do more harm than good for African-American patients

Vitamin D is quickly becoming the "go-to" remedy for treating a wide range of illnesses, from osteoporosis to atherosclerosis. However, new evidence from a Wake Forest University School of Medicine study suggests that supplementing vitamin D in those with low levels may have different effects based on patient race and, in black individuals, the supplement could actually do harm.

Novo Nordisk awarded funds to support diabetes summer camps nationwide

Novo Nordisk Inc., a world leader in diabetes care, announced that it has awarded funds to support scholarships and capital improvements to diabetes summer camps at fifteen locations nationwide. In support of their dedication to meeting the needs of children with diabetes, the grants will help the camps provide financial assistance programs to campers and improve facilities for the campers' use.

Scientists in Texas are reporting development of a first-of-its-kind cloth that releases nitric oxide gas - an advance toward making therapeutic socks for people with diabetes and a wrap to help preserve organs harvested for transplantation.
