Dapagliflozin with metformin reduces glycosylated hemoglobin level and body weight

Results from a 24-week phase 3 clinical study demonstrated that the investigational drug dapagliflozin, added to metformin, demonstrated significant mean reductions in the primary endpoint, glycosylated hemoglobin level (HbA1c) and in the secondary endpoint, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) in patients with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled with metformin alone, as compared to placebo plus metformin.

ALL initiative three-year clinical observational study results published

A program that bundled two generic, low-cost drugs - a cholesterol-lowering statin and a blood pressure-lowering drug - and gave daily doses to 68,560 people with diabetes or heart disease for two years is estimated to have prevented 1,271 heart attacks and strokes in the first year following the study period, according to a Kaiser Permanente study published online in the American Journal of Managed Care.

Clinical study results demonstrate the efficacy of AFRESA inhalation powder

AFRESA (insulin human [rDNA origin]) Inhalation Powder, a well-tolerated, ultra rapid acting insulin, showed no significant changes in pulmonary function and sustained glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes over four years of continuous treatment, according to data presented today at the 45th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.

Strong links have been uncovered between stress and ischemic strokes. Researchers writing in the open access journal BMC Medicine have carried out the first study into the correlation between self-reported feelings of prolonged psychological stress and different stroke subtypes.

Phase 2 study of PH20 with regular human insulin confirms faster insulin absorption

Halozyme Therapeutics, Inc. today announced additional Phase 2 results that demonstrated faster insulin absorption and increased peak insulin concentrations in type 1 diabetic patients after co-administration of its recombinant hyaluronidase enzyme (rHuPH20 or PH20) with Humulin® R (regular human insulin), a mealtime insulin.

Consumption of fish has no major role in protection against heart failure

The consumption of fish has no major role in the prevention of heart failure, according to results from a large prospective population study. The study, which was started in 1990 and involved all men and women over the age of 55 living in a suburb of Rotterdam, found no difference in the risk of developing heart failure between those who did eat fish and those who didn't.
